Firefighting in virtual reality
The Institute of Numerical Methods and Informatics in Civil Engineering once again participated at the open day hellwach! of TU Darmstadt. Visitors of our booth were given the opportunity to experience the research fields Serious Games and Digital Civil Safety Engineering first hand via a firefighting exercise in virtual reality.

Since March 1st, 2018, the Institute for Numerical Methods and Informatics in Civil Engineering has received reinforcements. Ms. Meiling Shi ,M.Sc., has started her work as a research assistent with various tasks regarding teaching and research projects at the institute. With the new addition, the number of PhD candidates is increased to ten.

Unterstützung in KW 8 & 9
In dem zweiwöchigen Zeitraum vom 19. Februar bis zum 2. März wurde das Institut für Numerische Methoden und Informatik im Bauwesen durch einen Praktikanten unterstützt. Fabian Haßa erhielt im Rahmen seiner Tätigkeiten Einblicke in die verschiedenen Tätigkeitsbereiche der wissenschaftlichen Mitarbeiterinnen und Mitarbeiter des IIB und half unter anderem beim Aufbau und der Durchführung einer Nutzerstudie im Themengebiet Virtual Reality (VR) für die Brandbekämpfung (s. Darstellung).

Das IIB auf der hobit 2018
Die TU Darmstadt, der Fachbereich Bau- und Umweltingenieurwissenschaften und das Institut für Numerische Methoden und Informatik im Bauwesen lädt alle Interessierten zu den Hochschul- und Berufsinformationstagen ein. Neben vielen weiteren Forschungsstationen gibt es den VR-Stand (Virtual Reality) des IIB zu entdecken. Hier können Besucher in eine virtuelle Welt eintauchen und die Feuerwehr beim Kampf gegen die Flammen unterstützen.

The IIB attended the workshop “Linked Data in Architecture and Construction” in Dijon, France, at the beginning of November (13.-15.11.2017). The theme of the workshop was the use of Semantic Web technologies in construction.

Research Training Group KRITIS visits the IIB's VR Lab

Virtual discovery of critical infrastructures
On Friday, 03.11.2017, the Research Training Group KRITIS visited the IIB and got an insight into the modelling and visualization of Critical Infrastructures in VR and AR. During the joint hands-on session at the Darmstadt Civil, Environmental and Safety Engineering Lab (DACES), the HTC Vive, Oculus Rift, Cyberith Virtulizer, Leap Motion hand tracking and Asus ZenFone with Tango and AR-Core technology were tested.

Rehearsing for emergencies

The IIB as a guest at the disaster control exercise of the Lusatia control centre
On Saturday, September 30, 2017, a disaster protection exercise took place at the Carl-Thiem Clinic in Cottbus. This was a so-called “mass casualty attack”, in which about 450 participants were involved in the rehearsal for the emergency. In the course of the security research carried out at the institute, the IIB was invited to observe the exercise.
