Geometric Modelling and Visualisation II (GMV II)

Course contents

  • Advanced methods of geometric modelling and visualisation
    • Basics of geometric-semantic modelling with Building Information Modelling (with Autodesk Revit)
    • Introduction to parametric modelling with digital methods (with Dynamo)
    • Analysing IFC files using C# programming (with Visual Studio)
    • Basics of visualisation with renderings and game engines (with Unity)
  • Practical application in the field of civil and environmental engineering, geodesy and traffic engineering

Note: The contents and event times are coordinated with those of the module Engineering Informatics Project (IIP) . This means that both modules can be taken in parallel.

Recommended prerequisites

Geometric Modelling and Visualisation I (GMV I)
or basic knowledge of 2D CAD software

Basics of Engineering Informatics (GDI)
or basic knowledge of the programming language C#

Process The exercises are completed in groups of two students. Four sub-assignments are handed out in the course of the semester, which are handed in collectively at the end of the semester. Very good performance will result in a grade bonus for the exam.

The written exam questions will be asked in German. It is possible to answer the questions in either English or German.

Further information to the Studienleistung

  • You can get together in groups of two on Moodle during the first week of lectures. The group assignment will last until the end of the term.
  • If you do not belong to a group by the third week of lectures, you will automatically be assigned to another person.
  • If a group partner drops out, you may work on the remaining exercises alone. Optionally, you may form a new group with another student in consultation with the tutorial supervisor.
  • The completion of the Studienleistung consists of the submission of the software projects as well as the submission of a presentation video.
