Automatisierungspotential der Baulogistik

Potential for automation in construction logistics

Bachelor thesis, Master thesis

How can autonomous floor conveyor vehicles and automatic robotic order picking make construction logistics more efficient? Construction logistics deals with the transport and provision of building materials in the course of executing a construction project. Against the background of the shortage of skilled workers, it is important to investigate in the context of construction logistics how the working time of skilled workers can be made more efficient through the use of robots.

In stationary industry, autonomous floor conveyor vehicles are already used to transport material on the factory premises. The use of robots for order picking, i.e. the demand-oriented repacking of material from large delivery units into small mixed delivery units, is also already being tested. However, the characteristics of the construction industry make it difficult to simply adapt automation strategies and techniques from the stationary industry. On the basis of digital building models and through the use of artificially intelligent systems, the workload can also be reduced in construction logistics. A possible final thesis could therefore investigate what a strategy for increasing the efficiency of construction logistics through the automation of logistics processes might look like.
