The iib at the 35th Forum Bauinformatik in Hamburg
Young researchers present their research results
2024/11/06
The Startup Port provided the backdrop for the three-day conference, which took place in Hamburg Harburg from 18th to 20th September 2024.

The Forum Bauinformatik (FBI) has been a regular forum for dialogue in the scientific field of construction informatics since 1989. The 35th edition took place for the first time in Hamburg, at the Institute for Digital and Autonomous Building at the Hamburg University of Technology (TUHH). Organised by young researchers, the conference offers doctoral candidates and students the opportunity to discuss topics and research results and present completed projects. Contributions on the topics of artificial intelligence and machine learning, sensor technology and robotics and building information modelling dominated the conference. These were complemented by outstanding presentations from the fields of computer vision, organisation, management and linked building data, sustainability, digital twins and simulation and optimisation. The iib support association made it possible for two students to also take part through financial support. These two students and the iib research staff published and presented five conference papers:
Michael Disser, Vivien Volland, Gent Demiri: SPARK: A Universal Approach to 3D Point Cloud Segmentation Using 2D Image Segmentation Models – Demonstration on Traffic Objects
Jens Wala: AI in Critical Infrastructure – Explainability and Models
Marcel Heiß, Timo Bittner: A framework for using heterogenous data from digital building permits in urban mining
Maximilian Gehring, Yunquing Luo: Sustainability assessments through IoT-supported evaluation of user behaviour in the context of as-used BIM
Christian Rosenkranz, Pascal Mosler: Comparison of Tracking Methods for Augmented Reality-Supported Damage Mapping of Grid Shell Structures
The conference papers can be found in the published online. conference proceedings
The exchange between the young scientists was rounded off with a BBQ on the opening evening and a festive conference dinner on Thursday in the Parliament restaurant in the vaults of Hamburg City Hall. The delegation from Darmstadt rounded off the evening with a panoramic view of the harbour at night in the Skyline Bar on the 20th floor of the Empire Riverside Hotel.
