In the course of the 38th assembly of members of the Ingenieurkammer Hessen on November 5th, 2021, Univ.-Prof. em. Dr.-Ing., habil. Dr.-Ing. E.h. Udo F. Meißner was presented with the Cross of Merit 1st Class of the Order of Merit of the Federal Republic of Germany by State Secretary Dr. Philipp Nimmermann of the Hessian Ministry of Economics, Energy, Transport and Housing. In his laudatory speech, he said (translated from German): “You have always worked tirelessly for the further development of engineering, the interests of the profession and, for the next generation of engineers in particular, have moved and inspired many people through your motivation, your competence and your commitment.” Nimmermann also praised Meißner's commitment to sustainability and renewable energies and the goal he has always pursued of getting young people excited about engineering and thus encouraging them to turn to the engineering profession.
In addition to this prestigious award, Professor Meißner was also appointed Honorary President of the Ingenieurkammer Hessen by its current President, Dipl.-Ing. Ingolf Kluge, for his many years of work and commitment. Professor Meißner held office as President of the Ingenieurkammer Hessen from 2003 to 2018. As a university professor, he was at the Institute for Numerical Methods and Informatics in Civil Engineering from 1990 to 2005, while leading the institute and also serving as Dean of the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at Darmstadt Technical University in 1994/95.
