Press release: Former IIB professor receives award

In a letter from the Prime Minister of Hesse, Volker Bouffier, it has been announced that the Federal President has awarded Univ.-Prof. em. Dr.-Ing. habil. Dr.-Ing. E.h. Udo F. Meißner with the Cross of Merit 1st Class of the Order of Merit of the Federal Republic of Germany. Professor Meißner was a professor at the IIB from 1990 to 2005 and also Head of Institute. We congratulate cordially!

Professor Meißner was also President of the Chamber of Engineers of the State of Hesse (Ingenieurkammer Hessen) from 2003 to 2018, to which the commendation also refers. The letter goes on to say (translated from German version):

“With great commitment, you succeeded in anchoring the acceptance of the special requirements of the profession of consulting engineers in the context of the requirements of harmonization in Europe. You have always understood how to guide the integration process for the merging Europe through education in such a way that this meets the special social and professional requirements. You were also very concerned about getting young people interested in technology and making the engineering profession more attractive, thus helping them to find their way into the profession. In doing so, you have made an important contribution to the well-being of people, not only in the state of Hesse.”

In addition to his work at the Institute and the Chamber of Engineers of Hesse, Professor Meißner was also Dean of the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering (1994/95). Further information can be found on our team pages .
