Kick-Off for the HyProTwin Research Project
The consortium partners met at the BAW in Karlsruhe for the public project launch.

In the HyProTwin research project, semantic, AI-supported models are being developed to map digital twins of waterway structures. The aim is to intelligently link previously isolated and heterogeneous databases and make them usable for planning, maintenance and operation in a process-orientated manner.

On 30 April 2025, the public kick-off of the HyProTwin research project took place with all project partners at the Federal Waterways Engineering and Research Institute (BAW). Representatives from authorities and companies such as the Waterways and Shipping Administration, ITZBund, DB InfraGO, Autobahn GmbH and Ruhrverband took part and showed great interest in the project. The concepts presented relating to knowledge modelling, AI-based linking of technical data and digital twins are highly relevant in practice.
The day before, the consortium partners – BAW, plusmeta GmbH, CONTACT Software GmbH and the Institute of Numerical Methods and Informatics in Civil Engineering – had already met for an internal workshop. The focus was on the question of how engineering knowledge can be formalised in such a way that it can be reused digitally. Initial approaches were discussed and the interfaces between the work packages and the project partners involved were honed based on specific use cases such as building inspections. The personal exchange provided the ideal framework for creating a common technical basis and setting the course for strong cooperation within the project team.
