Investigation of digital engineering methods for linking and displaying data from the usage phase with the building model

While the construction industry is still one of the least digitized branches of industry, digital planning, construction and operation are facing major changes due to new technologies. Innovative platforms, methods and tools offer groundbreaking opportunities to network, organize and optimize projects – for predictable, profitable and sustainable results. Building Information Modelling (BIM) as an intelligent process is a central link to close the innovation gap in the construction industry and to open up the possibilities of industry 4.0 and digital future trends to the industry. This work will focus on how far BIM can go beyond the usual standards and how digital simulation of the processes for the entire construction phase can minimize planning errors and detect and prevent additional costs at an early stage. A concept is presented, which enables the holistic, life-cycle related use of BIM as well as the linking of data from the usage phase with the digital building model. In addition, some important tools will be presented to use BIM and new technologies such as Internet of Things (IoT), digital replication, Virtual Reality (VR) and Augmeted Reality (AR) more efficiently in the areas of planning, design, construction and in building management. Finally, the developed concept is demonstratively implemented in the form of a web application and a mobile application.
