The aim of the project is to develop a documentation system that enables the complete digital recording and processing of all information of a crime scene. Within the framework of INSITU (from the Latin in situ “local, on site”), the challenging requirements regarding crime scene work are to be considered and integrated using mobile devices (smartphones, tablets etc.) in order to be able to react to the respective findings on site and to manage the time pressure of a uniform documentation tailored to the situation at hand. Automated procedures can be used to support data evaluation and relieve the investigative staff.
In addition to the Institute for Numerical Methods and Informatics in Civil Engineering, the Federal Criminal Police Office (Bundeskriminalamt, BKA) in Wiesbaden is involved as a project partner as well as the bayoonet AG as an associated partner. As part of the Forensic Institute (Kriminaltechnik, KT), the department KT24 – fires, room explosions, electrical engineering – is responsible for the investigation and assessment of (primarily) fire locations. KT24 will also coordinate the project in the person of Dr Sebastian Knop. The IIB is looking forward to the collaboration!
