The Institute for Numerical Methods and Informatics in Civil Engineering is delighted to congratulate the three young scientists on successfully completing their doctorates.
In his dissertation A BIM-based Interactive Storyboard Approach for Accessible Occupant Activity Simulation in Safety Scenarios, Dr.-Ing. Timo Bittner presents an approach to simulating human activities in safety and hazard scenarios. With the help of interactive storyboards based on building information modelling, his work enables the comprehensible and flexible creation of simulation scenarios. His doctoral defence took place on 3 June 2025.
Dr.-Ing. Jiuru Huang completed her PhD externally at the iib while working at the Federal Waterways Engineering and Research Institute (BAW), and her defence took place on 9 July 2025. In her dissertation FUSION: Ein synthetisches KI-Konzept zur Integration und Transformation verteilter textbasierter Daten im Verkehrswasserbau, she developed a concept for the intelligent linking of heterogeneous text-based data in transport water engineering. By synthesising symbolic and statistical methods of artificial intelligence, her work lays the foundation for adaptive knowledge systems for decision support.
On 25 July 2025, Dr.-Ing. Jascha Brötzmann defended his dissertation A Federal Twin Platform for Structural Health Monitoring Using the Example of Railway, in which he dealt with the integration of structural health monitoring and digital twin concepts. He is developing a federated platform architecture that brings together distributed data sources and models, enabling a holistic, data-driven condition assessment of railway infrastructure.
The iib warmly congratulates the three doctors on this important milestone and wishes them every success in their future professional and scientific careers!
